Has anyone seen the Tenchi series like Tenchi: Muyo, Universe, in Tokyo etc.
I found quite a time ago on Cartoon Network, formerly CNX and late at night Toonami.
They were actually good and funny.

A brief summary: A young japanese lad named Tenchi accidently awakens a preserved space pirate and destroyer of worlds by the name of Ryoko.
Later in the series, Girls from across space came to Earth and are attracted to unfortunate Tenchi who also becomes warrior for justice.

I reckon a lot of anime fans are familiar with this.

I've only seen two episodes of it before, yet I did play the SFC RPG which was quite funny. Then again, there are around 5 different storylines to the entire show so... Hehehe.

Yes, I watch that when I can, and I have a few DVDs.  Be warned the TV version has been dumbed down for American kiddies.  I'm a fan of Princess Ayeka. ^_^  I also like "Pretty Sammy", which is an offshoot of the Tenchi series.

Of interest to SPC fans, the Japanese voice actresses of Ryoko and Mihoshi are also the voices behind Pururun Polly Esther and Omitsu Lucille in KNT.

I enjoy Tenchi Muyo~!
However, the part ot the series that I really enjoy is the OVA. Both the TV Series aren't that bad, but they just don't carry my interest as much at the OVA.

As for the VA's, that's very interesting to know~! ^_^
A nice piece of info~

The Tenchi series are among my favorite anime. Personally I like the first TV series better than the OVA. I know most people will beg to differ from me here, but I just think the OVA series was too short and complicated.

I took my time towards liking Tenchi Muyo. The women were cute to the bone from wild Ryoko to Royal-influenced Princess Ayeka. The Japanese seem to have a habit of drawing the most beautiful women of animation.
Anyway I also like Sakuya from Tenchi in Tokyo.
I thought that each series had different origins of the characters. It that was likely it would be confusing if you associate all series togather.
Mihoshi & Ryoko's japanese voice artists also added hints of SPC characteristics:
Ryoko- Sexy, sensual, terrible temperament, envious, good fighter - Polly Esther

Mihoshi- Sweet, not bright, guliable - Lucille

Nice twist isn't it?

I haven't seen it (because I don't get any really good tv stations here) but I've seen pics and it looks weird...at least the animation does.

Small question: is this the anime with the Cabbits? Or do other animes have em too?

Yes, this has the cabbits (cat/rabbit like alien creatures), the famous of which is known as Ryo-ohki, who is often found with Sasami.

I got Tenchi, Ayeka and Ryoko, all for the steal price of just $25!! It's crazy!

That's just irony, but I knew about , Polly Esther from the Walk in the Stars mp3 I have.  She sounds identical (doesn't change her voice or ANYTHING).

Yes, you can include me in the Ayeka fan club too! I especially love the exchange in the OVA series with Ryo-Ohki, where she tries to console Ayeka by giving her a flower. Nice scenes like this actually make you care about the characters. This is another thing that anime does well.

Has anybody seen Tenchi GXP? I heard that it just wasn't the same as the other 3 series (uhh, Tenchi in Tokyo, eww)

I also heard that it had tons of fan-service, and just wasn't worth it's name.

Tenchi GXP is actually a spinoff of Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki (more commonly referred to as the OVA series).  But it ends up going on it's own storyline after the first few episodes.

Tenchi Universe and Shin Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi in Tokyo) are two continuities that are seperate from the OVA series.  Each of them have a different storyline, though most of the characters are the same.  And for the record, all three Tenchi Movies are based off the Universe continuity, hence Kiyone being in them.  Another major point of interest, in the OVA series, Tenchi's mother was named Kiyone (not Mihoshi's partner), while in Universe, her name was Achika.

Personally, I enjoyed the OVA series the most.  I liked the fact that Washu, Tsunami and Tokemi are all sisters and basically Goddesses.  Even though it's kind of obvious.  Plus, 'Z' was just pure evil.

Yeah, I agree.  I liked the OVA's the most, even though the storyline just sort of dropped after "here comes Jurai"

The characters in the other series were cool and all, but the OVA just had all the cool story line stuff in it. Plus Ryoko destroyed the school and moved the house to the mountains all by herself!

Actually, one of the movies (forgot which one) was based off the OVA but still had Kiyone in it. As to how it had Kiyone, I forgot that too, but I believe it has something to do with the Mihoshi special...
