I get pretty pissed off with the political correction that is attacking us. Over the last several years they have pushed very hard to change the very meanning of Christmas, removing nativity scenes from public display, getting rid of "Merry Christmas" as the typical greeting and exchanging it with "Happy Holidays". And all in the name of what?

How is it that the idea of Christmas is offensive to anyone when the very holiday itself is based upon the birth of Christ. The vast majority of Christians don't push this upon anyone, they don't EXPECT everyone to follow the doctrine of the faith.

That being said, it IS a slap in the face when you change aspects of the holiday season that really don't do anything to insult anyone. How is viewing the nativity scene offensive, how is someone saying Merry Christmas infringing upon someone's first amendment rights? Why most the majority of us put up with this due to a small fraction of non-believers?

What about the rights of the majority of Americans who believe in the story of Christmas, what about their rights to express themselves in a way that, while in the public view, is not in any way forcing anyone else to submit to their viewpoints?

Why has political correctiveness gone so awry when dealing with the Christmas season?

Christmas is under attack, and we must defend it. I myself already refused just yesterday to buy a New TV set at Wal-Mart when the cashier greeted me with Happy Holidays. I just walked away, leaving my shopping cart behind in from of the cash register. Thing is, they lost on $2,000 of profit for being politically correct.

AND ONE MORE TIME!! MERRY CHRISTMAS

i know what you mean... in sweden we have gone so far that a person waving the swedish flag on the sixth of june might make people consider you a nationalist (racist).

anyway, i totally agree with cloudboy. christmas is a christian holiday and if you are not christian, you should not celebrate christmass

I always make it a point to say Merry Christmas, as that's what the bloody time of year it is!

Born and raised a Catholic, I believe the secularization (look it up) of this season quite sickens me.

But what's worse is when people get "offended" over a Christmas tree and demand it's removal, or changing the name to a "Holiday Tree."

Fuck them and Merry Christmas.

All you people talk about waving flags and people getting offended...

In America the Confederate flag is all over the place in the southern regions, no one makes a big deal about it.

Maybe I'll start waving the flag of...what doesn't exist anymore?  The Roman Empire?  Yeah, the Roman flag.

Kwanzaa? Chanukah? What're those? jk, I celebrate Christmas, but people should just be able to ASK if they want to say something other than "Happy Holidays". Am I right? They could be like, "Oh, what holiday do you celebrate during this season?" And then you could be all like, "I'm a Satanist, so I celebrate Chupacabra." And they'll be all like, "Well, have a good Chupacabra!" It would be hilarious.

What I find more rediculous to me is how Santas in Australia were banned from saying 'Ho Ho Ho!' for a while because some people found it offensive. You know the world's going to s*** when people get up in arms over a old fat bloke laughing...

And the 'little man' in the stores really can't do much about it if the order comes from the top to say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'.

This sums up my feelings:

If anyone is foolish enough to believe there's an actual "war" on Christmas, then I'm the Hogfather. But very well, I won't be wishing those people a Merry Christmas OR Happy Holidays, better?

This is one reason why I get cranky during this time of year..... ¬_¬#

Indeed... well, Happy Hogswatch everyone!
PS: A Chupacabra is a South/Central American demon that preys upon goats... Um, Skategoat killed one with a shotgun once... And some people believe they are descended from extra-terrestrials... When is Cthulhu Day again?

Okay first off, people who get offended by those who say 'Happy Holidays' are all jackasses because they're honestly no better than people who get offended by those who say 'Merry Christmas'. Call it whatever the hell you want and let others call it whatever the hell they want.

Personally I prefer 'Happy Holidays' because I feel it helps non-Christians from feeling left out of their respective holidays. For crying out loud, 'Happy Holidays' still includes Christmas so it's something for everybody so at least some people say it for the right reasons, not necessarily out of offense for Christmas.

Second, I'm closing this thread as this topic has already been argued enough. We don't need it to ruin this time of year for anyone.
