The Great Comet Caper
Part 1

Legend has it, that once in a great while, a comet will pass over Earth, and any couple who witnesses it, shall become married. This seems to be the initial feeling I got while watching this episode. But, of course in the SPC universe, things like to turn from good to bad in a heart-beat. The feelings between Speedy and Polly begin to become the most apparent, breakthing through the shell at last, after being hidden through most of the series. This is also the turning-point episode when Big Cheese completely loses his mind, wanting to wipe out the entire city once and for all using his latest Weapon.

Style - 7.5/10
Story Significance - 8.5/10
Humour - 8/10
Action - 7.5/10

Part 2

Here we go. The pride and joy of every SPC fans memory, the last episode. There is just so much good in here, it makes me wanna cry. Everything one could want; a climatic showdown, explosions, fighting, love story, emotional rollercoastering everywhere, THE FISH GUN, and redemtion. Bad becomes good, and love blossoms and the city is saved. But it's the STYLE of this one episode that really got my attention: It actually had the mix to be the stand out of the entire series. All that was missing was Speedy and Polly's kiss (which I would have freakin' animated if I could. ^_~ But that's just me.) other than that, it was the best way to wrap up a series. There are so many fan-fiction openings after this episode, probably why I like writing it so much, because there was a taste of seriousness and darkness in this episode, as well as light hearted good guy stuff. This is #1 on my list, paws down. =^_^=

Style - 10/10
Story Significane - 10/10
Humour - 8/10
Action - 10/10

I felt ready to review this one, and if any of you others were planning on doing it, tough luck, add your comments here. I want a nice, clean discussion, as these 2 episodes are the high point of the SPC universe.

Have fun, people.

Comet Caper would be Episodes 52-53 on the complete episode guide (which includes KNT episodes not dubbed, 54 episodes) or 50-51 on the SPC only list (52 episodes, "The Cats Cop Cartoon Careers" being #52 on that version of the episode guide).

The series finale was indeed amazing. The only thing that bugs me about it is the fact that the Speedy/Polly relationship just comes out of nowhere. At no point in any of the other episodes were we even given a hint that they might have or even eventually develop feelings for each other, then all of a sudden, along comes the comet and they're lovers. Poor Lucille.

The Great Comet Caper was a wonderful climax to the series, with a surprisingly strong emotional pay-off. On the lighter side, there are the usual great gags, especially in part one:

Al Dente: That reminds me, where is Speedy?
Francine: He was real moody, so he took a walk to clear his head.
Al Dente: When will he be back?
Francine: I guess when his head's empty!!

I too feel sorry for Lucille though, especially when Guido leaps to Polly's defense right at the end:  Lucille 'Hey! What about me??'. The poor girl's left in the dust!... Come to think of it, I think the only gentleman caller Lucille ever had during the series was Buck in the 'Great Golden Cluck' episode. Speedy and Guido don't count here, because I did say 'gentleman'... ^_^ (Were there others? I can't remember...)

It (Comet Caper) kind of reminded me a bit of the 'very special' episodes most sitcoms end up having.  You know, the ones where the Laugh Tracks are removed and they talk about something really heavy, like drugs or someone dying.  But they end up having to balance it out with humor, so it's not overly operatic.  That's about what this was like.  It had the humor, the seriousness, and a Fish Cannon.

But yeah.  Most Fics pick up from where this one leaves off (probably why most are serious to a fault).  I even have to admit.  My game picks up from where this one leaves off.

The only downside I could see (if you call it a downside) to this (Comet Caper) was the fact that the US version never tells you how Bad Bird gets a Ginzu Sword.  It's just Bam!  He's suddenly got one!  And Speedy's acting like it's no big surprise.  But that was minor.

And poor Lucielle.  She doesn't have anyone fighting over her anymore...

At no point in any of the other episodes were we even given a hint that they might have or even eventually develop feelings for each other, then all of a sudden, along comes the comet and they're lovers. Poor Lucille.

I think that has more to do with the translation and less with lack of forshadowing. I mean, in 'Speedy Double-Time Trick' he has a date with  Lucille and  Polly Esther, even if it's 'just shopping'. Looks pretty date-like to me, with Polly dressing up and them eating ice-cream. Also Speedy gets rather depressed if Polly is angry at him (see 'Polly's Magical Flute').

As for the episodes, I really like that ending. I just wish that they hadn't cut out Lucille blowing up the city because it's rather confusing without that scene. And I also didn't like how there such a weak explanation as to why Speedy could suddenly enter the Great Catatonic. But otherwise, great stuff.  Smiley

Not sure. He probably did.

Anyway, this is one of the best two parter episodes of the SPC series. I like this one because it has a great fight scene with Speedy and BadBird. One of the best fight scenes drawn for an animated world, IMO. Also, the suspension for this two-parter is great. It really had me going for the first time that I've seen it. The other two-parter of this series is really good, too. But, this one is truly the best. I have seen a lot of fight scenes in the animation world and this one has made my top ten list of best fight/battle/shooting scenes of the animated world. If anybody wants to see a climatic two-parter episode with a sign of passion, love, a little bit of violence, and a whole lot of craziness. This two-parter's for you.

Hmm, you know I think I read that in KNT there was more hints to Speedy and Polly falling in love then there were in SPC... but oh well.... anyway this two-parter was awesome... I just wish we got some confirmation that Speedy and Polly got together after this.  Sad

Personally, I hope that there isn't any real confirmation, because I've always liked the Guido-Polly hookup alot more than the idea of Speedy and Polly tying the knot. However, it is very clear that Speedy and Polly had become lovers. Oh well  Sad

There is always fan-fiction, Mate.

Anyway I remember seeing part 2 long ago one morning and I was quite impressed. I thought it was odd for Speedy & Bad Bire teaming togather. Even more odd I thought Lucille had a relationship with Lucille!!! I did not know about Carla at the time. Hard to blame me, since she came in at the last moment literally. Anything that happens after is all down to fanfics.

It did end a bit 'iffily' on that front, and as everyone's mentioned the romance between Speedy/Polly was kinda last minute - not that there weren't any hints before hand. Just saying that there could've been more build-up. At least in the US version, haven't seen KNT.

BTW, in the manga, isn't it all back to normal after the 'Comet Caper'? With Speedy and Guido chasing Lucille again? Even though I'm not a fan of Speedy/Polly, I find that way too inconclusive. Maybe Polly's having a time-out while she gets over Speedy's 'make me a pizza' wisecrack? Or maybe she IS making him a pizza ... Speedy Wink

On another note, my fave part of this episode was the light coming out of Emperor Fred's head, and the part where Big Cheese says "Aren't we supposed to imagine the worst" or something, and then Jerry says "Then let's imagine". Classic! My least favourtie bit is Good Bird. I CAN'T STAND Good Bird! He's BAD, end of story Angry

*Hugs formally kat*

Thanku! Thought I was gonna have to hug myself for a minute.

Just watched this on DVD tonight and I must say, it's one of the best series endings I've seen.  Part 2 was particularly excellent.  I nearly cried when everyone thought Speedy had died (even though I knew he hadn't, it was still pretty emotional).  For the record, I'd just like to say that I think Guido and Lucille belong together!
