Now I'm reading the book "Corações Sujos" (Dirty Hearts) written by Fernando Morais. He describes an episode of history of Japanese immigrants in Brazil, just after Japan has surrendered in World War II. Some immigrants refused to believe the fact that Japan has been defeated, and established a secret organization called "Shindo Renmei". They didn't accepted the truth, even when the Japan emperor Hiroito admited publicly the Japanese surrendering on the radio. These fanatics considered immigrants that accepted the loss of Japan as traitors of the emperor, and started to murder them. About 23 people was killed and 150 wounded until the organization was destroyed by police repression (about 30 000 people was arrested, 381 of them sentenced and some banished).
My mother told me about this struggle ocurred when she was 10 years old, but now I can check it with more historical accuracy. Sad, very sad to know how stupid is war and how fanatism and intolerance leads to barbarism.
