SPC 38 - A Mission In Manhattan

I'm like the biggest fan of the KNT version of this episode! The NY Pizza Cats (or Himitsu Ninjatai Yankee) just rock all around! I'm glad the SPC version was relatively untampered with. The concept was kept, and apart from a couple of dialogue changes and some stupid cuts it didn't stray too far from the original.
I think it was a bit pointless changing the names of the NY cats. I mean their names were American to begin with. Ah well, I can live with it. Sundance's voice is, to me, not bad at all. I actually find it very sexy. His attitude is kept intact and he is every bit as lovable as his KNT counterpart. I hate that they cut out his finisher though! I mean what were they fearing, that kids would grab a gun a try imitating it? Isn't flailing around with swords like Speedy about just as bad?
As for the rest of the NY cats, Deedee is the dynamite! Her line "I know you wanna be punished, and my kitty whip will do it" made me smile. Cosmo is... so big! I don't know what kind of cat he's supposed to be, but I want one like that! Abigail, It would've been fun to see more of her.
All in all, awesome episode! Seeing Big Cheesy's relatives was a treat, and when they all exploded it was like... wow! My only gripe about this episode is that it was too short! It should've been a two-parter (although it follows the "Bad Bird Uncaged" two-parter). Or the NY cats should've had some more appearences (other than the cameo at the end of "The Great Comet Caper") during the series! Oh well, I guess it proves a show is good when your only complaint is "I WANT MORE!!!". (And as Burkey said, it leaves room for fan fiction)
Another fun note. I noticed that in the KNT version there were a lot of instances were characters were talking, but their mouths weren't moving (lazy animators! *lol*) . In SPC, they tried "fixing" this... by having characters talk off-screen. Not so outstanding, but I appreciate the effort. ^_^
This also raises the question, what are the Pizza Cats in every other part of the world like?

The world may never know...I've wondered about that as well. Russian Pizza Cats, or Turkish Pizza Cats *grins*

The KNT version of this was actually rushed a bit, causing animation staff to leave a lot of still shots in that should have been animated. You mentioned the mouths not moving, and there were also a few action scenes that should have been animated more, such as "Honey" (Omitsu's counterpart, Lucinda in SPC) firing her machine gun.
I guess the animatiors had it easier with normal episodes where they could re-use scenes like the launch, and backgrounds of Edoropolis. By changing the location to New York, they had to make all new backgrounds and a NYPC launch, as well as animate unfamiliar characters, causing them to fall behind on the schedule.

That is correct.
But she did get an important role in the NYPC doujin comic.

Did anyone else notice how Abigail's rhyme dips into Francene's voice during the first part? She starts off with an accent, then revert back to Francine's voice, then back again...
Also, does anyone know why Sundance's finishing move was cut? Or why a fragment of it was left in?
Other than that, a good episode all round.

Discussion on where to download episodes should go in the
Episode Downloads
forum. Just so you know for next time.
But to answer your question; the best places to find episodes are currently
Daisensei's server
for SPC episodes, and
Supersonic's sever
for KNT (the original Japanese version of the show) episodes. The episodes on Daisensei's server rotate, but this episode is currently being hosted there. So check out the
topic
, click the link to the server, go to the "spc" folder, and download either the higher-quality WMV, or the lower-quality but smaller filesized RM.
Hope this helps.

from what i understand, his finisher was editted since he used a gun. back then, North America had these overprotective parent agencies making Saban cut out the whole sequence.

That sucks. I remember an episode of Pokemon that was cut cause someone was shooting a gun. It was an episode that took place in the Safari Zone and I think it was the one that showed Ash actually capturing all his Tauros's.

Possibly a Maine Coon. Apparently, they can grow pretty big, by the time they're four years old.
I agree, it was a bit silly to cut out the 'Cats Eye Shooting!' scene, but leave the image of the swirling flame flowing into Sundance's holster.

I think you mean "DeeDee" instead of "Abigail"... Abigail is the NYPC's Francine.

Mission in Manhattan was all right, but it was basically a gimmick episode. The funniest parts were Polly's temporary crush and Big Cheese's entire family blowing up.

Well this episode was ok, is basically one of those episodes about differences in Japanese and American culture that just poop out of nowhere in a Japanese show. The KNT version was better, but is still a good episode.
The New York pizza cats
The occidental counterpart of the SPC, Sundance Kid (the leader), Michael in Japan, his weapon is a gun that can do an special attack of the same power level than Speedy "CAT EYE SLASH", DeeDee (The pretty girl), Madonna in Japan, her weapon is a black whip; And Cosmo (The handsome), Prince in Japan, his weapon is an occidental sword. Their Japanese names make reference to popular USA singers by the time the show was made. We could said that Sundance kid represents baseball and Americans love for guns, Abigail represents the sexy bad girl of some USA movies and Cosmo is the typical "Blue prince" .
