Hey everyone. I just want to post this to have everyone here to post an opinion about this type of thing.

See, last year of 2005. It was a year of the remakes. With War of the Worlds, King Kong, and many others that I just forgotten at this moment. But now, this year of 2006, there are more animated films than I've seen in my life. I shall call this year the year of animated films. Certain films coming out this year are Monster House, Over the Hedge, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, Curious George, Cars, The Ant Bully, Open Season, Barnyard, Hoodwink, and Happy Feet. I know there are others, but they haven't been advertised yet on the newspapers, magazines, or even during the previews. But they do happen to be on the net. If anyone knows of anymore, don't hesitate to post them here. So, all in all, are all of ou guys are willing to see any of these movies this year? Which ones are you most willing to see? Which ones are you expecting to do well and which ones to go bad?

In my opinions, I'm willing to see most of them. The films that I will defenetely see with no hesitation nor double thinking will be Ice Age 2, Over the Hedge, Curious George, and Happy Feet. The films that I will somewhat watch will be Open Season, The Ant Bully, and Cars. The films that I think that are gonna flop or I will defenetely not see are Monster House, Hoodwink, and Barnyard. Barnyard and Hoodwink looked really stupid and Monster House just doesn't seem right with me. That's all I got for myself. What's all of yours for this?

and I've seen alot of crappy traditional animation too. Although I do agree it was a bad idea for Disney to distance themselves from traditional animation based on the success of Pixar's foray into the 3D world. Don't they realize that Pixar just knows how to create good movies? I mean, has anyone actually seen Valiant or Chicken Little? I'm convinced that Disney has lost it.

Anyways, I'm excited about Cars because I'm convinced that Pixar can do no wrong.

it's nice to see movies like Chicken Little, though only once in a while. but, if Disney sticks with computer animation from now on, that would break the company's family tradition. i think they're just doing that because after Cars was finished, Pixar finally got out of Disney's contract, so it must be an act of desperation.

I've heard Pixar have enough ideas to make the Toy Story 3, but that was not done only due to this contract. I hope they can make this movie after the end of the contract.
BTW, Disney haven't done any masterpiece animation since Lion KingAnnoyed

Pheh, Lion King wasn't even that good. I think the last good Disney movie was Aladdin.

OK, I respect your opinion, but I still think Lion King is a great movie. I like specially the mix of tragedy and comedy.
I dislike the sequel Lion King 2 though, an oversaccharinated novel.  Annoyed

You're right in most of cases, but generalizing is dangerous. For example, Toy Story 2 is as great movie as its prequel, if not better. Same thing could be said about Shrek 2.

see for yourself.
I know Kimba, that was aired in Brazil at my early childhood (almost 3 decades ago). I suspected the influence of Kimba to Lion King (well, it's pretty obvious Kimba and Simba is very similar name), but for the fist time I see this being exposed more explicitly (thanks for the link). Yes, that's a shame Disney haven't given the proper credits to the Tezuka's work, but I still think it's a great movie. Although not original (well, as you said, a plagerised work), it's well done in my opinion.
Perhaps my point of view is influenced by my son, I used to dislike several movies, animations and cartoons when I was 20 years old. Nowaday, I learnt to appreciate these works through my son's eyes, and ideed I'm finding good points that was hided from me. I'm not sure if I could liked SPC at 1990's, when perhaps arrogantly I'd think that such cartoon is only for kids (actually I never watched SPC when was aired in Brazil, owing to lack of a cable TV).
Good to remember Tezuka "manga no kamisama" work. I miss very much "Ribon no kishi" that was aired in Brazil at 1970's.
Sorry, I'm going off-topic again.

EDIT: perhaps I can be misunderstood, so I wish to make clear that when I said "arrogant", it's refering to myself when I was younger, and there isn't any mention for whom is disagreeing my opinion. I intended only to show how my opinion has changed over the years (and is still changing).

Now look. I don't know why anyone thinks that The Lion King was a plagerized version of Kimba. Granted that I never saw the series, nor heard of it until recently (like two years ago). But, you can't just say that Disney plagerized it. Though there are some similarities that I noticed (not only the name, but when I saw the post of the web article I noticed some similar screenings). But, that doesn't mean it was plagerized. The Lion King was mostly based on Hamlet from what I've learned and the thing about Kimba is just coincidence. Look, you have to admit that The Lion King is one of the best animated films in movie history and one of the best I've ever saw. And if anyone says that it is plagerized by some old anime series, I'll just scoff at them because it's all part of a simple conspiracy theory and just simple plain coincidence. I'm a huge Disney fan and I once worked for them. Disney has a long history of copyrights and originality (from "Oswald The Lucky Rabbit to old legends and several animal movies and cartoon shorts) and The Lion King is defenetely not like that at all. It is a story mostly based on a story and mix with a version of their own. Hamlet, not Kimba.

BTW. I just heard about this thing about Kimba and The Lion King. So, that's why I'm a llittle touchy in this thing.

Now, enought about The Lion King/Kimba thing and why most animated films now-in-days are mostly computer animated. I posted this to just give you guys a say in which animated movies this year would you most likely to see. Let's not get into debate on those subjects. Okay? Sheesh. Talk about a heated moment here.

I'm really going to have to read the newspaper more, because I've only heard of Cars.

Maybe I'll go see it so I can find out what movie theater look like from the inside.

Andy, I'm glad to see you too like the Lion King movie. And don't bother yourself about the plagialised work or not. I read sometime (in a article about the tachyons - a hypothetical particles that travels faster than lights) about an very old Indian proverb: 'What can be thought now, was thought already.' So, I see nothing original in our life. I'm getting too philosophycal now, am I not?

2006 will be a great year for Animated Films and for the Nintendo DS
only 1 thing ---
Steer clear of "The Shaggy Dog" remake
If you saw the original movie and you compare it to the trailer of this remake
You'll know it's gonna suck!
