Beat me to the punch, I see.  =^_^=

Bear in mind, that MSRP is surely to be knocked down 20-40% (latter percentile with discount offers) by most retailers.

I still can't believe this is coming out.....didn't when ANN had the news on their site about SPC / KNT getting licensed last year, and probably won't until I have an actual, officially licensed-and-released copy in my grubby little mitts.  I feel like the anime fan I used to be back in the late '90s / early 2000s when a series was licensed and released again.  In one word......stoked!

Agh. That is much more expensive than I imagined it would be. I thought it would be closer to the amount the KNT boxed set is going for. Are there going to be extras with it or something? Because that's pricey if it's just the DVDs only and nothing else.

I sure hope so. Undecided

My KNT copies came in yesterday.... I can confirm Lord Korn and Skashee are the names in the subs... not too thrilled but the art is so nice and crisp compared to the old rips I had... more than willing to overlook (maybe we get a small group togother to make some edits to the subs? Don't release the video, but just the editted sub files)

Not surprised, but I'm not about to nail this to Discotek.  Anime, being a Japanese product, unfortunately, they (the Japanese) have the most say in it than those who license the rights to release it to the rest of the world.  After all, why do you think BluRay discs take forever-and-a-day to get released here?  Not that reverse-importation is the issue here, but still.....

Though I admit, now that we know this for sure, it makes me question the integrity of every DVD I have that has English subs on them.  Not that I watch most anime in Japanese (Cardcaptor Sakura is the only one I have thus far).....due to my limited eyesight, I have to have it dubbed.  Still though, makes one question.

Lord Kön (or "Koon" w/out special characters) is supposed to be his name, if I'm not mistaken.

Still taking it for what its worth.  At least we won't have to worry about this sort of thing with the English version coming out this Summer.

That's exactly what I've been considering ever since I found out about the poor name choices. A re-subbing project would please us die-hard fans as well as spare some headaches for the newbies who are wondering why we groan whenever they mention "Skashee" or "Shogun Yetyet".

Lord Kön (or "Koon" w/out special characters) is supposed to be his name, if I'm not mistaken.

"Ko'on" is the most popular way to spell it, but "Kohn" or even "Kön", like you wrote, would be acceptable. Much better than "Korn", anyway.

Too bad about the names, but, oh well. Translators tend to take liberties.
A couple of Russian romhacking groups translated the game last year and they assumed Ko'on is Cone.
Much more probable than Korn consindering the form of his nose. I don't think any corn is involved.

"Koon" comes form "kon" which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a fox's bark (like how "Nyankee" comes form "nyan" which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat's meow). "Korn" is just a strange Anglicization, as far as I can tell.

The Japanese word for "koon" (fox bark) "Corn" and "Cone" is コーン  "koon" which is also the way it is written in his name, コーン守.  We all know it's the fox bark, but most translators who are not familiar with the show are going to go with the other 2 choices, which occur much more commonly in daily speech than the fox bark.

Oftentimes, I give Japanese-to-English translators the benefit of the doubt, but this is why big anime distributors (much to the disdain of die-hard fans at times) hire people to adapt the scripts into a more smooth-flowing English one....filling in the blanks, spell-checking and so on, which is then taken a step further (sometimes) when an English recording is to be done (to match timecode, moth-flap, etc).

Tatsunoko probably forgot that important task and just gave us the literal translation, errors and all.  Discotek having no say whatsoever, I can't pin it on them so much.

This is a niche thing anyways....well, SPC -and- KNT are both niche (except to us die-hard fans), but SPC is the bigger slice of the pie for a general majority who look at the series as nostalgia entertainment, myself included.  It will clearly be the bigger seller for Discotek.  They surely know that and thus better not mess THAT one up.

The Japanese word for "koon" (fox bark) "Corn" and "Cone" is コーン

Which is funny, because they've used the ko'on/corn pun with names before, like "Pop Ko'on" (popcorn), although that's still no excuse for "Lord Korn" in my opinion. Oh well, gotta live with it now.

Looks like some KNT is going to be screened at Anime Boston this weekend.

Odd, since under audio format they state it as being in English.  Mistake, or maybe they got copies of the SPC DVDs ahead of time for screening purposes?

Nice to see at least one convention is screening KNT.

A'Cen had a few Discotek-licensed titles that were screened.  Unfortunately KNT wasn't one of them.

I wasn't in time to see it, but this weekend's Anime North in Toronto had "Ninja Cats" listed on their schedule. I wonder...

My pre-order is in, directly to Discotek themselves.  Could've gone through Rightstuf (my usual go-to place for anime) but SPC was too significant for me to not give my money directly to those responsible for getting it a proper official release.

I want this in my grubby little mitts ASAP.  It streets on July 30, but Discotek sent KNT sets out ahead of its release day...we'll see if the same happens with SPC.

Going by what I'm reading in the comments on FB, Discotek went straight to Saban themselves for the tapes.  We're getting the show in the best possible quality available.  Hopefully it's as good-looking as the KNT set was.  I'm especially looking forwards to the 12 episodes I never got to see in the original U.S. airing, but I plan to do a run of the original 40, in aired order for nostalgia's sake.

Can't wait much longer.  =^^=

Got my replacement for disc 2 today.  (The first release had a glitch in the 2nd disc and Discotech is sending out free replacements.  In case you didn't read that already)
