Well, ever since I purchased a used Kindle Keyboard 3g, I'd been looking for something to put on it.
While I've been putting great deals of fan fiction on it, I've also wanted to find something within Amazon's large library.
So, while browsing through the various stories, I stumbled upon 2 books that I wanted to give a try.
The 1st one I didn't care for. Little did I know the 2nd one would begin a flurry of reading I haven't done in a long time.

I stumbled upon a book called "A Galaxy Unknown" by Thomas DePrima.

The book is book 1 of 8 in a currently on-going series following the exploits of a young woman named Jenetta Carver.
The series is primarily science fiction, and the author's rendition of a space opera.

I've greatly enjoyed each book of the series thus far. Unfortunately I've enjoyed it so much that now I'm stuck waiting until December for the next book.  Cry

So... What books have you dudes & dudetts been reading?

I'm currently engaged in one of my periodic re-readings of all things Wodehouse. I used to be a big science fiction reader, but I got to  a point where it seemed that every author I was reading had not only read Ayn Rand, but had taken her seriously.  Kinda ruined the genre for me.

after reading the third book of my favorite saga, Chronicles of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords (in my country Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo: Tormenta de Espadas), I've been reading Assassin's Creed: Renaissance. IDK about the original, but the Portuguese (Brazil) version is awful. The game (AC2) is way better.

In time: I've not yet watched the Game of Thrones series in HBO.

I hope they serve beer in hell.

And

Assholes finish first.

Two classics from Tucker Max, I suggest you all read it.

I expect a book report by the end of the month from all of you.

Been reading through the Ted Bell's HAWKE series.

The book titles of the series:

Hawke
Assassin
Pirate
Spy
Tzar
Warlord <--- currently reading
Phantom.

Also picked up Ready Player One earlier this year. I'm trying to pimp it out to anyone I can. It's already quite populare with the literary crowd, but if it ever went mane-stream it think it would be the next big thing.
I think it fullfills a very modern fantasy catering to current populare culture.

The central idea of the book is the OASIS. It's a massive open source virtual reality that everyone is plugged into. The future is ravaged by everything we fear about now; global warming, Islamic nuclear war, economic collapse. Economies all over the world are crap, OASIS currency has the most value, and the world is in furthur collapes because everyone prefers to operate in OASIS. OASIS isn't just a generic virtual world like Second Life;  it's set up like a galaxy, with quadrants, sectors, and planets. Both work and play exist in the OASIS, you can choose to live a structured life with school and a job. There are planets dedicated to education, where PvP combat is disabled. On that note, you have an avatar, you can equip it with armour and weapons, and go out adventureing. There are all kinds of games to jump into set up by both the OASIS orignal creaters and users. And the internet as we know it still exists on the OASIS, you just open a viewing window infront of you to see a website (just like in Reboot).

Pop culture is heavily featured in the OASIS. There are sectors of the OASIS dedicated to Star Wars, Star Trek. Middle Earth is recreated. People still play WOW. If you have the cash, you can own any of your favourite ships and vehicles. The main character eventually owns a custom Delorian with the Night Rider lights at the front, and all the intruments from the Ecto 1 on the roof.

Theoretically we could have Edoropolis recreated for ourselves. We could build Little Tokyo High and hang out there for reals.

The Story of the book revovles around the original programer's death. Upon his death he reveals a challange for an Easter Egg hunt. The one who find the egg inherits his entire fortune, and complete control over the OASIS. All the clues and challenges for the hunt are centered around '80s popular culture.

Back to the Future
Ferris Beuler
Atari
Oingo Boingo.

Because of the '80s styles and trends make a comback in the OASIS, since everyone is trying to become an expert on it so they can find the egg.

I've finished my second read through of book 2 in the "A Galaxy Unknown" series.
This one is titled "Valor At Vauzlee" by Thomas DePrima.

I've been greatly enjoying his take on the "Space Opera" genre.
While some of the reviewers have been complaining that the main character is too much of a "Mary Sue" and have continually stated they don't like the series, I greatly enjoy reading about her adventures.

I'm eagerly anticipating one of his newer books which takes place in the same universe, however centers around a different character.
It was supposed to be out by the end of July, however now it appears we're waiting until the end of August.

I feel the book will be worth the wait.  Polly Love

Good thread. Reminded me that I should really re-read the Hobbit before the whole circus starts in a few months.

I tried to read 50 Shades of Grey to see why women were so obsessed about it...then I may or may not have tried to kill myself by the 5th chapter.
