I'm gonna cheat and put up not 5, but 10 of my favourite video games. Well, um... ^^; because I copied them from another forum I regularly go on and pasted it all into here. Heheh.
Mega Man X - Up til 2004, I have never played one Mega Man game despite how many different titles and sequels were released before then. This is the first ever one I played and I instantly knew I was in for something special, and it introduced me to the Mega Man fandom like it never did when I was young. I thought the music was special and the gameplay took the original NES games a different approach. Old but new, if that makes sense.
Mario Kart 64 - Now this is fun. In fact, I absolutely love this version of Mario Kart to bits. Not having a second SNES controller prevented me from enjoying Super Mario Kart and I am really terrible at Double Dash are the reasons alone that I adore this game.
Star Fox / Star Wing - Except for Sonic and Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures, they really weren't that many titles that focused on anthro animals in the video game market in the early Nineties, except for those licensed games from Disney shows. But that's not the reason why I liked this game. The 3D polygonal visuals and SFX made Starfox stand out from the rest of the SNES library, but it does have its share of awesome 2D spritage! The music is brilliant, too.
Final Fantasy IX - If I had to pick which was my favourite FF game from the PlayStation period, it would be IX. Well one of my pals likes VIII because of its strong focus on character development and customisable abilities, and another said FFVII was cool because of its story and the jump from sprites to polygonal gameplay made it so popular. I like IX because of the mix of both features. Plus it's like, one of the last titles to be held in an old, traditional environment like all the FFs from I to VI, so it's appeasing for both old and new fans. The music composer, Nobuo Uematsu, is a genius!!
Tekken: Dark Resurrection - Out of all the best games I picked, this one is the most recent. Just like the past 3 Tekken games before it (that's 5, 4 and Tag Tournament), but only made between. The computer AI is more fair than the previous title which I didn't like that much, and each character can be customised to suit your needs. All the important features like Survival and Team Battle are still there, but in Arcade mode, you will fight an infinite number of CPU opponents. I find this the best Tekken game besides 3.
Super Mario World - Very addictive, and very colourful. The controls are so ace that it makes you want to dash straight the levels from start to finish without stopping. I keep taking many so-called 'risks' on this game (according to another of my best pals) but it's so good I can't help but keep going if you know what I mean.
Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time - E-eeeveryone must have at least heard and played this fantastic game. Much like what Final Fantasy VII did, OoT made a huge leap from sprites to polygons and it did take a while to develop the whole game. Roaming Hyrule is certainly the most exciting part, and then there're the dungeons and all those side-quests to improve your weapons before facing Ganon. Sweet!
Star Fox 64 / Lylat Wars - This is what the Rumble Pack is made for. Basically retelling the original story from the SNES, everyone must be familiar with this N64 version. I thought the music was good, but I still liked the SNES music better and I wish it kept some musical aspect from the first game. Oh well... anyway, it introduced three interesting characters, Bill Grey and Katt Monroe, Fox's father James, and also the Star Wolf crew. After clearing a level with those folks, I wanted to meet them again before the end of the game! Heck, I nearly wanted to do a fanfiction at one point!!
Worms - I noticed another Worms-lover from another forum, so I brought this up. I only played the PS1 copy of Worms and I still got it today after all these years (about 10). It's hilarious on multiplayer but surprisingly, it's nearly as fun on single player. I don't know, my memory is a little fuzzy on this particular game, but I still remember it as being very fun.
Resident Evil 2 - My best friend and I got completely hooked to this game when it was released, so the 'survival horror' genre thing was pretty new to us both. I played a demo from a CD off a gaming magazine and he bought the real copy. You could say this game was the main reason why we've been friends for years! Before Metal Gear Solid came about, this was very tactiful; basically run out of ammo, and then you're screwed. It's good to see Leon and Ada return for RE 4 which I also like a lot, but that's all my ten games I picked!

My top 5 faves:
1. Halo 2
2. Halo: Combat Evolved
3. Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (PS2. In fact, the fighter squadron you fly in late in the game, Razgriz, is the basis for my username here.)
4. Front Mission 4 (PS2 RPG. You use giant humanoid mechs called Wanzers, and you must collect evidence to prevent the country of Zaftra from causing all-out war between the UCS-United Continental States, and the EC-European Community.)
5. Red Faction 2-My favorite PS2 First Person Shooter. You use a MASSIVE arsenal of weapons, and you can blow up just about everything around you. The game uses Geo-Mod technology, which allows you to blast through walls, or whatever else is in your way, in order to get to your objectives, find hidden weapons, or sneak up on unsuspecting enemies.

I don't think I have a top 5, but I do love these two;
1.
Sonic the Hedgehog
: OK, OK, I know Sonic has gotten himself a bad reputation these past few years, but look underneath the stacks of 'Black and Red Die Hard Hedgehog' and 'Apocolypse Mobius' and you'll find a few gems like 'Rush' and 'Rivals'. The characters are also quite fun!
2.
Klonoa
: He's not immensly popular in the mainstream (see, 'unheard-of'), but these darling little games are legions ahead of the games we get today. Creative game-play, emotional stories and lovable characters make these games my most favourite of all time. If only we could get a 'Klonoa 3'...

I might update my last one...
5)
Jet Force Gemini
(N64) - a true Rare Ware gem and a game I find to be very underrated. The camera angles were a little dodgy in some areas, but other than a very enjoyable shooter. Great music score too. The Tri-Rocket Launcher =
.
4)
Perfect Dark
(N64) - while the single player is a little inferior to GoldenEye, the vocal work, enemy AI, story and multiplayer are excellent. It has some of the most original and enjoyable weaponry I've ever used in a game. I managed to get to Invincible3 in the multiplayer ranks, but have never heard of anyone getting Perfect1. Yet another reason why Rare were the game making masters during the SNES and N64 period. A shame that the series was ruined by Perfect Dark Zero.
3)
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
(Wii) - scoff all you like. I
love
DBZ and this is the best DBZ game out. Nearly all the stuff from the anime is there - sound effects, fights, story, attacks, special moves, and the Funimation voices. On the Wii it's very entertaining and enjoyable as a fan to pull off your own Kamehamehas and other attacks. The only let down was the music - why they didn't use Bruce Faulconer's music is a mystery to me.
2)
The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
(N64) - every time a "Top X Games Of All Time" list comes out, people ask why this usually gets in the Top 10. The answer? It deserves it. SteC has already summed it up. Awesome story, items, graphics, and the music is some of Koji Kondo's best work. An absolute masterpice from Nintendo.
1)
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
(Xbox) - I honestly believe that since I got this game for Xmas '02, I've racked up over 1000 hours on it. A massive RPG with hundreds of quests, hundreds of NPC's to talk with, huge amounts of lore (you can spend hours reading the books in the game), a staggering amount of collectable items, sweet artifacts and a beautiful music score. Two good expansions as well. The best game I have ever played.
Phew, that took a while (especially since the my computer skipped itself back a page before I was about to post this!
). This gets harder everytime I see this sort of thread, since there are so many games I love.

There's actually six of them. =P

I've heard great things about Chrono Trigger, and had been really wanting to play it.
While watching the bonus disc from Final Fantasy XII, I noticed that "Final Fantasy Chronicles" had Chrono Trigger on it. Then I was like "Wait...don't I have Final Fantasy Chronicles lying in my room?"
Needless to say, I'm quite happy now.
I felt Chrono Trigger was a tad overrated. Not FF7 overrated but just a little bit. However, I still had a lot of fun with it. Awesome battle system and Frog is the best character ever.
