PlayStation 3 vs Nintendo Revolution - Conference Videos

this one begins with future plans for the Nintendo DS, with new and interesting upcoming games, and a new and better way to play multiplayer DS games, through a wireless network by Nintendo and Gamespy. then, you will see a new look for Game Boy, and you will see upcoming games for Nintendo DS and Nintendo GameCube. but, that's not all. no, it's far from that!

Satoru Iwata will do a presentation on the Nintendo Revolution. you'll see what the system looks like, what kinds of games it will play, and learn about its features. sadly, the only part that was revealed was the system. but, Nintendo is keeping us in suspense about the controller's appearance, and about upcoming games for Revolution, besides a Mario game and a Zelda one. i'd like to talk more specifically about the games and new, neat things you'll see, but i don't want to spoil the surprises.

SCEA president Kaz Hirai, and SCEI president and PlayStation inventor Ken Kutaragi are there at Sony Picture Studios, discussing the great potentials of the PS3. Kutaragi-san will explain how powerful its graphics will be, thanks to a whole, new kind of processor -- the Cell Processor, made by Sony, IBM, and Toshiba. this processor is so powerful, players will get to not just watch cinematic scenes, but they will get to play those scenes too! no more switching between cinemas and gameplay for us. 

also, you will hear about the PS3's neat wireless features, including Bluetooth for up to 7 players (no more multi-taps!).

the technical specs are shown, and so are the kinds of discs that PS3 can read -- any kind of disc that is CD, DVD, or even BD-based (BD associates with BlueRay technology...if that's what it's called *bonks self for having a memory lapse*). EA Games will show us a demonstration of the live-action-like graphics in a video game, and Sony will show us something even cooler. i'd like to tell you guys, but i don't want to spoil that either.

finally, this video will end with an unveiling surprise, although Methid Man did show us some cool pics of that "surprise" already.

I think Nintendo totally failed at E3 for not showing any Revolution gameplay, or their "magical" new controller.
It's all well and good that they announced the classic game download system, cube compatibility and Smash Online at launch, but I don't think they can take their time in showing how "revolutionary" their next-gen system is. They're practically considered to be out of the race this generation, now they'll be last out of the gates when the new generation starts.

Sony showing FF, KillZone, Devil May Cry on PS3  >  Nintendo showing absolutely nothing.   -_- 

The DS had an amazingly good showing this year, but that's a whole other story.

Whoa, did somebody say classic game downloads for the Nintendo Revolution?! And it has backwards compatability to the GameCube?!

This just might be the first Nintendo system I'll get since the Super NES...

Yes indeed, at Nintendo's E3 conference Mr. Iwata mentioned Revolution's ability to download NES, SNES and N64 games. Some of the games pictured were Excitebike, Metroid, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I'm really hoping classic 3rd party games are also available to download, because I'd love to get Chrono Trigger, FF6 and Street Fighter 2.

i'll have a reason to play N64 games again!  i stopped playing N64 games some time ago because the Controllers are getting so worn out, the Control Sticks are prone to break off.

Oh man, I know what ya mean. I got 3 N64 controllers and they have ALL worn down to nubs basically.

but.. I'm more of an emu guy, so I don't follow consoles anymore.

OMG...seriously? That is awesome. Classic game downloads. I might have to get this system as well. Emulators sometimes give me trouble. N64 emulation is problematic for certain games that I love (Mystical Ninja). But if you have any advice about that I'd like to know.

The $10 third party controllers NEVER break on me I personally think the Revolution is better than the PS3, but then again I just want all the retro stuff and, dare I say? Super Smash Brothers online! WHOOT!

I am uncertain of the PS3 still.  Those who have watched that video and have keen eyes will notice that in the lower part of the screen, there is sometimes a "line" and below that line, the image is drawn from a slightly different viewpoint.  Maybe a few inches to a foot over.  This seems to occur when there is excessive movement on the screen, such as many characters, race cars, and ocean waves.  It occurs during several game previews in "real time" graphics from different developers.

It makes me think that the PS3 still has a major glitch in drawing the frames with excessive movement.  It can't be the camera as it never happens when the camera isn't focused on the PS3 demos.

That kind of behavior is unlikely to occur on a real TV, since they are interlaced, unlike a computer screen.

I have to say the revolution I'm sorta a Nintendo person. PS3 is fine, but I just have to choose the revolution.

PS3 will win in the long run, but I have a soft spot for Nintendo.  They can't expect people to pay for old games can they?  People would rather use ROM's.  Hopefully there will be some good exclusives to save it.  Can anyone say Starfox!

Though the games were overpriced, they still made Nintendo a boatload of money.

Many people, myself included, would easily pay $20 for a legal copy of games like Super Metroid and Zelda: A Link to the Past. As long as the prices are reasonable, I could see the service becoming the iTunes of video games.

I won't be surprised if PlayStation wins again next generation, but it won't if it launches at the rumored $400 US (almost $550 CDN. Ouch! ), and if developing for the Cell processor is an utter nightmare.

That probably isn't a rumor. The price of all it's components equal up to about that much.

That is true, but now the PSP is going to have a lot of trouble now that they know how to pirate games to it simply by loading them onto VERY large memory cards. Then again, that will make the system sell better...

400 DOLLARS?! They've got to be kidding... Whelp... I'll never be getting a PS3. But that's fine 'cause I was aiming for the Revolution in the first place.
