Title: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 13, 2010, 02:22:47 pm Im really not picky in what i eat and i try almost everything but some people really dont know when they should stop.
example (also a nice base to make some stereotype-jokes) : sauerkraut pizza:(picture) i got to admit that i love sauerkraut but not everything that tastes good has to be made into a pizza!(i guess ill stay at tuna, onions and pineapple) well i only posted a pizza-topping but i guess its not that hard to find more really wierd food from all over the world.its not about posting food that is disgusting or so, i mean:i dont even want to know how many of hate sauerkraut(if you ever ate it).its rather about showing unusual stuff like...yeah international unknown and uncommon dishes or simply something to laught why? well im intersted and maybe we can find some "got to try that"´s^^ Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 13, 2010, 02:44:42 pm From the few German food-words I learned....Sauerkraut is one of them, everyone always kept saying that cause it sounded pretty funny to say :D
I actually only eat 2 kinda pizzas (I learned 2 years ago to eat pizzas) so I don't know many different kinds of pizzas, I only eat salami pizza and pizza Hawaii.... Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Gabya on September 14, 2010, 12:37:53 am Lutefish
Dried fish that has been soaked in lye (caustic soda) for two days, placed in water and then boiled . fun story, It is said that Lute-fish was invented when some viking raiders food supply was poisoned by the raidees. The vikings thought it was delicious. Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 14, 2010, 12:40:08 pm I actually wonder.....what is the classic one? xD
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 14, 2010, 01:48:35 pm I actually wonder.....what is the classic one? xD Hehe sorry! It's name is Margherita (that means daisy) Is only with tomatoes and mozzarella...maybe can be with oregano but I don't like it. Sometimes when I go to the restaurant I ask a Margherita with black olives...yummy XD Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 14, 2010, 02:10:09 pm good old magherita pizza family size for 10 bucks makes my day everytime again ;D (and yeah i order family size for myself)
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 14, 2010, 03:06:52 pm 2 schoolyears ago I went to Prague and me and 4 others went to a pizza place.....dang we got pizzas bigger than the plates (In the Netherlands, most pizzas aren't so big).
I made a short video about the guy that placed the pizzas on the oven....eventually made...kinda a documentary of 20 minutes of The whole school trip from 5 days in Prague :D Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 14, 2010, 03:29:12 pm Here depents...sometimes in the restaurant the pizza is very small and subtle so you would like to eat another one XD
Other times is more big than the plate and you find difficult to eat all XD Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 14, 2010, 03:39:10 pm Yeah I almost finished my pizza but just couldn't eat the last bit, 3 others only ate a half pizza.....and the 4th ate 1 whole pizza and all the left overs from the others........
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 14, 2010, 04:18:11 pm .....and the 4th ate 1 whole pizza and all the left overs from the others........ OMG XDDD I'm not in the habit of eat very much when I go at the restaurant, but I remember one time that I ordered a plate of BIG sushi and I eat whole it ...and then I was still hungry XDDD Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 15, 2010, 03:46:52 am thats also something funny....in Prague I ordered also my first sushi......I'm glad someone told me NOT to eat the wasabi in one time (cause I wanted to do that, I really didn't knew what it was xD)
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 15, 2010, 12:09:37 pm Hahaha XD Oh yes wasabi is terrible!! When you look it for the first time you think it can be good to eat but...urgh XD I remember the first time I've been in a japanese restaurant with my family, was the first time for everybody so I tried to taste te wasabi and...it has been like have fire in my mouth XD
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 15, 2010, 02:38:36 pm thats what wasabi is about xD
yeah I also tried it, but thanks to my friend only bit by bit.... Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 15, 2010, 03:10:25 pm seems like you two dont like it spicy :D i guess you would die if you watched the movie "wasabi" when he uses it instead of butter on toast^^
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Mr.NoName on September 15, 2010, 03:30:48 pm A little bit of Wasabi isn't too bad. It helps to clear nose clogs when you're sick too! However, eating too much of it can be... uh... Well.... it can light your mouth on fire, which is something my aunt did once.. She was bouncing all over the place. :(
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 15, 2010, 03:58:05 pm the nose thing is true...definetly XD
Quote The vikings thought it was delicious. is it?cause it looks yummy Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: ANE on September 15, 2010, 04:31:34 pm Uncommon North West England food: Chip Butty (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Chip_Butty). Yum yum.
Also, I have a taste for salmiak (ammonium chloride + liquorice) after buying a back of Strong Salmiak Fisherman's Friend. As for wasabi, well ... anyone want some cake? (http://www.wagamama.com/food/item/chocolate+fudge+cake/372) Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 15, 2010, 04:38:22 pm I use to eat wasabi a bit on sushi, and with soya sauce...in this way you can eat it, tastes good!
Anyway Vonhorz you're right, I don't like spicy foods at all XD Yummy the cake must be delicious but the Chip Butty seems so...calorific O.o Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 15, 2010, 04:54:31 pm Uncommon North West England food: Chip Butty (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Chip_Butty). Yum yum. I ate those kinda fries yesteday! xDonly I'd prefer a bit smaller ones, but then again not as small as those from the mc donalds.... and I also prefer this cake: (http://blogimages.seniorennet.be/dagschotel/289044-941c6c657dd5bdbbb070541584dbc5f4.jpg), it's a specialty from the province I live in. it's chocolate with some kinda cookie we call "speculaas" don't know what it's called in English here a photo of it (http://www.ddspecials.nl/cms/uploads/speculaas.jpg) Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: ANE on September 15, 2010, 05:04:01 pm Yummy the cake must be delicious but the Chip Butty seems so...calorific O.o It is quite a delicious chunk of carbohydrate.only I'd prefer a bit smaller ones, but then again not as small as those from the mc donalds.... Only chip shop chips for chip buttys! McDonlad's small fries on bread? Blergh! The other trouble is the name, especially if you like your chips on a "bread roll", known over here as a muffin. Say Chip Muffin, and you have people thinking that we eat chips on one of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muffin which can be called either cakes or muffins depending on your locality. I've just found that GH Sheldon have another "traditionally healthy" recipe for you, The GHS Breakfast Muffin: http://www.ghsheldon.co.uk/process/7/RecipeIdeas.htm I also feel the need to try the Potato Cake Pizza recipe. Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 15, 2010, 05:38:24 pm OMG the The GHS Breakfast Muffin must be totally disgusting XD I don't like the food so full of ingredients, expecially I don't like very much fried eggs.
But the chocolate cake which sjonnoh has posted looks good, here in Italy there is something similar called "salame al cioccolato" (chocolate salami). It's not a real salami is a dessert and tastes good. I also really like this kind of cookies they are called "baci di dama" (dame's kisses) they are really good ^_^ Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 15, 2010, 06:58:08 pm lol for the wasabi-chocolate-fudge cake^^
oh and sjonnoh´s cake must be great because the filling alone is awesome....cant wait for christmas to get some of those ;D well i have to realize that its quite hard for me to find national food and call it wierd since im used to most of them.... anyway: good ol german currywurst....though its a fault to call it currysauce. its more like a upgraded tomatosauce....i know sounds boring but just read the ingredience: worcestersauce, curry, paprika, honey, chilli and vinegar....and some tomatos. its kinda hard to describe how it tastes, okay you can say:its based on tomatos and thats obviously curry on top of that but thats it.it just has its own taste wich is awesome^^ (http://www.abseits.de/currywurst_reundorf.jpg) oh and talking about sauce: someone thought it would be funny to upgrade that sauce to 4,5million scoville....all i say about that is OMG (even if i had some more on my tounge already) Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 15, 2010, 07:53:47 pm Vonhorz are you from Germany? this plate seems really spicy! I think it couldn't be my favourite kind of food XD but I would be courious to taste it!
Here in Italy (expecially in the north Italy where I live) we are use to eat cornmeal porridge (polenta, in italian) is very tasty expecially with meat sauce *yum* Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 16, 2010, 01:41:13 am vonhorz is from Germany ;)
and aside from those delicious currywursts in Germany they also have those giant Wiener schnitzels! Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Violent Violet on September 16, 2010, 08:46:01 am vonhorz is from Germany ;) and aside from those delicious currywursts in Germany they also have those giant Wiener schnitzels! I saw a picture of Wiener schnitzels. I never seen it before, is a sort of fried fish or am I wrong? and you Sjonnoh, are you french? I also see that you can speak german well! Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 16, 2010, 12:28:06 pm no not French but Dutch, and Dutch is a bit like German, so.... :D
The original Schnitzel is made of pork but these days you also have chicken. It's really delicious, also with (sweet) chili sauce. I can't describe what it would taste like, I think it has it's own special taste. Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on September 16, 2010, 01:50:37 pm a common schnitzel is out of pork, has around 200 gramms and its only that big because its very very thin..
but yeah XXL is kinda trendy atm so yeah.... that restaurant is just a few minutes away from my hometown so i was there as well^^ (just ignore the creepy guy)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iP1XNkWTlg Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Gabya on September 16, 2010, 02:24:11 pm Quote The vikings thought it was delicious. is it?cause it looks yummy People still eat it though, its a traditional Christmas dish. Something that is incredibly tasty though is Smörgåstårta, or "Sandwichcake" in english. (http://static.kokaihop.se/recipe/medium/68965-137290.jpg) It's a cross between a big sandwich and a cake. EDIT Youtube video about big food in germany Hey! It's Weird Al!Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 16, 2010, 02:30:08 pm a common schnitzel is out of pork, has around 200 gramms and its only that big because its very very thin.. but yeah XXL is kinda trendy atm so yeah.... that restaurant is just a few minutes away from my hometown so i was there as well^^ (just ignore the creepy guy)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iP1XNkWTlg that was pretty funny xD "and that's just a small burger...." and now I actually searched for that "fat" song.....pretty hilarious too xD Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Mr.NoName on September 16, 2010, 02:56:15 pm a common schnitzel is out of pork, has around 200 gramms and its only that big because its very very thin.. but yeah XXL is kinda trendy atm so yeah.... that restaurant is just a few minutes away from my hometown so i was there as well^^ (just ignore the creepy guy)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iP1XNkWTlg I don't think I could eat all of that... Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: sjonnoh on September 16, 2010, 03:32:09 pm the biggest Schnitzel I ever ate was....I think 2/3 from that size, so I guess just a XL

I can understand just a little spanish just because is similar to italian, but I can't speak it...Anyway, is more easier for me watch SPC in spanish than in english! Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: Mr.NoName on November 20, 2010, 10:08:31 pm I actually wouldn't really know. I've never actually tried any kind of spicy/hot pepper before, but I'd say that this pepper is probably more torturous than Wasabi, since it lasts much longer and slowly builds up over time. I'd say there's a good chance that the Bhut Jolokia pepper is hotter than Wasabi. I could be wrong, though. I would imagine it also depends on the quantity of Wasabi or Bhut Jolokia you consume, and on how tolerant you are with spicy/hot foods.
Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on November 20, 2010, 11:16:10 pm a friend of mine imported one of these concentrated sauces....4,5 million scoville (no plant can serve that much by itself)...THAT WAS THE HELL! i tried a bit of that stuff pure....and after the pain stopped after around and hour i rubbed my eyes....and the fun began again. No really...i love spicey food but scoville counts within the millions are nothing for your daily food consum :D
but its fun ^^ Title: Re: uncommon food/dishes Post by: vonhorz on November 24, 2010, 10:52:35 am you know that the pure stuff....kills you pretty fast?
