Thanks, friends. Speedy Wink Your help are really welcomed, I hope this procedure will make the translation more suitable for native English speakers.
By the way, my plan is to merge all contributions with my text in one document, after the end of first volume (there are five volumes plus a special one).

Ah, good. Looks like the cultural modifications are already taken care of. :3

BTW, to anyone who wishes to edit in the English text in the speech bubbles, please see me about that as I'm willing to lend a few tools to help with that. (I'd do it myself but I really don't have the time for it ^^;)

Well, if you can lend me the tools than I'm willing to give it a try.

One question: How do you want to do the scanlation proces? First complete a volume and then editing the volume or page by page?

And yes, I'm new Speedy Wink

EDIT: spelling mistake corrected.

Doesn't matter, page by page is fine. :3

Do you have AIM by any chance? I'll need to use a text messenger program to do some file transfers. You can PM me your contact info. :3

Ok, I have finished editing the first two pages (which took a lot of time because I want to create a standard for myself that other pages have to reach as well).
Also I have changed a few things because I thought it was more correct if you it's not please say so and I will re-edit it.
I have only edit page 4 and 5 of the first volume:
Page 4: Didn't use "kirahh" but "Pika" as SFX for "flash"
Page 4: Didn't use "Kiiin" but "Sshaaa" as SFX for "Sound of something entering atmosphere" which means "Whoosh!"
Page 5: Yattarou "sighs" and doesn't hum "Hmmm..."
Page 5: Added translator notes for those who don't know SPC

As I said before if you think I shouldn't have changed something please say so and I will revert it back.
Also these are also not the finals but in-production edits.

Please tell me what you think while I continue.

Text insertion is harder than it looks. It takes me good half hour to input the text correct while checking the grammar, making sure that everyone knows what they are saying (I learned two new words! Yeah!) and so on. But the result is quite satisfying.
Talking about results I just finished page 6 and since all the translastions is done untill page 7... Yes, I either have to learn how to translate or I have to learn japanese (Well, one of my teachers is willing to give our class japanese so who knows.). But since I have more to do (homework, real work, even more homework) I'm glad I can use it as an excuse ^_^

Notes about this page (Yes, I love to add notes):
Page 6,F1: Didn't replace soundeffect (no room and seemed strange to me, it's more like he is hurt)
Page 6: Translators note about Nyankii (The Secret Ninja group Samurai Pizza Cats)

Changes
03-12-2006: PAGE 6 at frame 2 Karamaru actually says 'waving knives' instead swords. For Japanese people it's funnier when one imagines a half-naked Yattarou running behind somebody, waving knives.
STILLTODO: PAGE 6 at frame 1 the Karamaru's thought somewhat different from the Japanese (where he was crept seeing Yattarou's face).

BASTARD!! Speedy Wink (I just finished the other page and want to start on my homework.)
This time it took me 3 hours to do the page but that was because I was watching SPC at the same time.
Anyway, I don't mean the bastard part, it was just that I terribly bad timing (Example: I always call someone when they have dinner and the other way around.)

Anyway, here is page 7, so say yeah to translators who made this possible!!
PS: If possible please give me some critism since so I know what I must/can/should improve

Changes
03-12-2006: I disagree about the NOTE in the page 7, "kanra kanra" isn't a laugh of the crow, but could be anybody laughing in somewhat exaggerated manner.

Well, I just finished this at high speed, thanks to Daisensei. (People applaud for him, without him I couldn't have done this)

And the notes once more (page 8 ):
Page 8,F1: Left the note out (Still thinking of a way to insert it
Page 8,F6: "That's nothing" changed in to "I didn't say anything" which sounded more logical to me

And no page 7 didn't have any (at least not that I remember).

If anything has to be change (grammar, spelling, or just plain wrong) just tell me. I have all the edited images and I can only have to change the text.
EDIT: "page 8)" became a smily... Corrected that

I've been putting off coming up with suggestions for a while, but I'm about to go to sleep. However, before I do, I do have one line I have a suggestion on.

Page 5
Frame 3
Yattarou: "Kyou mo OEDO wa nihonbare... ka"
(English): "Today's a beautiful day in O-Edo... I guess."

Based on my limited understanding of Japanese, it seems that the "ka" tacked onto the end of the sentence basically means he's questioning the previous statement. There's lots of ways this could be put into English, but since the point seems to be expressing how Yattarou's feeling down, I believe something unenthusiastic like "I guess" would be fitting.
Since many of my fellow students are intressted in the japanese class a few of us tried japanese and their were some comments on it. Because of that someone posted the following:
Quote
ka na is I guess, If i'm correct. Ka is used to make a question, doko ka = where? etc.
however, sou ka literally means "is that so?", but you don't expect a reply... so if someone explains you something, you could say sou ka.
if you put 'na' behind it, it's more "nonchalant" and i think you should use it when you're not really interested, or don't really know.
I would love to hear your opinions about this.

You were so fast!  I'm afraid my translation work should be the bottleneck for the scanlation process. Anyway my aim is to translate one page for week.
Even for pages already edited, everybody can post error corrections, suggestions, opinions and why not, praises too.  Wink

Whoops, while I was posting, ElonNarai posted this:

Since many of my fellow students are intressted in the japanese class a few of us tried japanese and their were some comments on it. Because of that someone posted the following:

'ka' replaces 'da' when you want to make question, or to express doubt. something 'da na' means it is something, while something 'ka na' makes a question (like is it something?). Moreover, 'sou da' is a strong affirmation (it's really so) while 'sou ka' could express a question (is it really so?) or a affirmation with less conviction.
Back to the manga, although Edoropolis is in a period of peace, Yattarou himself is feeling troubled. Therefore 'today is a wonderful day in Edoropolis again', but not for the poor Yattarou.

One page... Darn, I knew translating was hard. Is there anyway I can help or do translating or somehow speed up the proces like putting ginsu sword on your throat?
Anyway, I have just re-read it and I saw some major faults. And I also want to left side of the left frame of page 6. So far I still have things to do.

And page 5 of course.
PS: Is there a place where I can upload? I don't want to spam the forum with images (at least not like this  Roll Eyes )
The NOTE 2 of the page 5 isn't correct, I'm afraid. 'Puutarou' is a name created by Polly Esther in the episode KNT 22 (Karasu ga piza motte tokkyubin?; in the SPC, Pizza Bird Delivers), to avoid Karamaru discovering the real identity of Speedy Cerviche at the Pizza Cat.

Thanks,
Added all of that to the change list. thanks for proofreading (adds Daisensei as translator and proofreader to the list as well).

About Puutarou: I searched the net and found this http://everything2.net/index.pl?node=puutarou but I will use your explanation
PS: I haven't watched the translated KNT version, just to let you know.

Pps: Next update will be either tomorrow late (GMT+1 at 21:00) or the day after that.

That's because I gave him a special font that's used in major comic books. :3

Otama looks like hammer-wielding Mario from the original Donkey Kong on the top of page 8. Grin

What's the name of this font, MethidMan? It's really nice.
