I've had interest in this film for a loooong time. I've followed every step of it's development. I never expected it to meet every standard or hit every que that Avatar fans would like. I've looked past the race bending issue. It's not like the film has an all white cast. It has a mutli-racial cast. It's just that the race of the actors doesn't match the race of the original characters on each one-to-one basis.

Well, maybe you're willing to ignore the most important issue, but many of us aren't. Paramount and Mr. Shyamalan can claim all they want that the film is "diverse", even going so far as to laughably and insultingly say that it's even "more diverse than the show", but they aren't fooling anyone. It's a blatant lie. You can't put white actors in the spotlight as the heroes, change all the villains and antagonists to having dark skin, and place everyone else in secondary roles or as extras, and then try to call that "diversity" because it just doesn't work that way. Why switch them in the first place? They can't say there were no talented Asians or Inuits, obviously that was proven wrong when they hired them to be background decoration. They can't say they hired the best actors for the job when so many critics are ripping apart the performances of the lead actors. And honestly, when was the last time you even saw an Inuit in the starring role of a film? This was the perfect opportunity to give to actors of color and to have some REAL diversity, but they blew it. They ignored it, brushed it off, and finally, tried to blame someone else for the problems and put a spin on it when it became evident that no one was buying their excuses.

I know race is a sensitive issue, that's why I haven't said very much about this here, even though it's important to me. It's sad for me to see how unimportant this is to some people. Throughout my protest of this movie, I've been accused of being racist myself, called names, been told I'm not a "true fan", been told I'm making a big deal over nothing, and all kinds of other crap. There are a lot of ignorant people in the world, some willfully, and I guess I'll just never understand it, but in the meantime, I'm going to do my part to see that studios and companies aren't rewarded when they try to pull this kind of stunt. The only way they'll learn is through negative publicity and to hit them where it hurts: the wallet.

All that aside, all this movie had to do for me was to not suck.

And it certainly failed there, didn't it? This thing better not get a sequel or I'll be pissed.

You're absolutely right. (Though you didn't need me to tell you that) You've touched on a grander issue with this, and that is the "focus group" mentality of the current film industry. Art shouldn't have to be made to appeal to everyone, or what is thought to appeal to everyone. It's an absolute insult to an audience to change things because "we think some of you won't understand this".

This makes me very happy, to tell you the truth. If I can get even one person to understand why these issues are important, then I can feel like all the trouble and headaches have been worthwhile. Thank you.

It looks like you beat me to making the announcement about Korra, too. I'm very excited for this! And I've just read that The Track Team will once again be doing the music. I hope this new series will save the franchise from the trainwreck that is that awful movie. There's already a ton of fanart for it and they haven't even revealed her face yet! Avatar fans are pretty hardcore.

Ever since I got digital cable a few months ago, and hence gained access to Nicktoons network, I've been watching lots of Avatar lately and I must say I've become quite a fan of the show. I regret passing this off as a cheap imitation of anime and not getting into it back in its earlier days. Maybe it can't be called true anime, but everything else about this show is authentic and original.

Can't wait to see the upcoming spin-off series.
