Probably meant to be a "tough" version of おいら.  Before katakana was adopted for writing foreign words, it was considered the more "manly" way to wriite (as opposed to the more flowing and curvy hiragana) and also used the way we use italics, to make a word stand out.

Do I understand correctly that the words with the L letter are not usually used by the Japanese in their everyday speech? (with the exception - English words; like Hold on or Black fight - from the KNT tracks).

For example, they say METARU for metal or MIRAKURU for miracle.

The questions arises while I was trying to do the romanization for the Mikazuki Konekushon song.

The 3rd line is モンロー・ウォークして. First word can be romanized as "Monroo". I think this is the reference to Marilyn Monroe.

The question is - why do they sing "Mo-n-lo-o" in the track (as I hear) and not "Mo-n-ro-o"?

There is no "L" in Japanese. They have "ra", "ri", "ru", "re" and "ro" 　But the Japanese "R" sounds are kinda halfway between an L and a R, so it may sound like either to you.  Since it doesn't sound like the R in "Monroe" you are familiar with, it sounds more like an L to you.  (Keep in mind that Japanese who have studied foreign language may be able to pronounce both L and R just fine, just as an English speaker can learn to pronounce Japanese.)

Katakana:  ラ　リ　ル　レ　ロ

When writing a foreign word with an "L" in it, they'll use the closest one they can get.
