Whats the glitch?

EP 09 on Disc 2, the subtitle track was off by a line (of code) so it got shifted to where the subs show up too early throughout the entire episode (sans OP and ED credits).

And what if we went through a seller like Rightstuff for eg?

I'm still waiting for word on replacements for people like myself who also purchased through other retailers (Amazon, Rightstuf, etc).  They're getting around to those who purchased straight from Discotek themselves first.  This is the other reason I put the order to Discotek rather than a 3rd party for SPC.....as a 'just in case' measure should one of those discs have any issues.  Crossing my fingers and hoping that's not the case though.  Discotek is usually very quality-conscious.

Edit: Replacement disc is on its way.  Whoo-hoo.

They finally did it.
As Daniel Bryan would say... YES! YES! YES!

I just hope this is the first step to release in DVD more good old 90s cartoon shows or to bring to Europe and America Japanese animes which never were aired outside Japan or other Asian countries like South Korea

My replacement KNT disc 2 just arrived, so hopefully anyone else who ordered from RightStuf should be receiving theirs soon too. Smiley

Where did you all pre-order your copies of SPC. I did mine at amazon when the price was still at $55.97 ^^

I pre-ordered at the Discotek web page. (both for KNT and SPC)

I would too, the only reason I didn't order at Discotek is the customs duty. With Amazon you can pay upfront, at Discotek when you get a package in the Netherlands, you'll have to pay the duty tax and an extra €12,50 for letting the post handle the customs clearing process.

I ordered from Right Stuf (for KNT) and Discotek directly (for SPC).  I would have taken up SPC with Right Stuf, but 1: I'm anxious / excited for SPC....couldn't wait til the street date.  2: In case there's disc issues like what happened with KNT *

* = Doubt you got KNT Speedy, but just for the record....  They sold out of the first (defective) run.  The second and future printings of KNT will have the corrected 2nd DVD.  Episode 9 had a big subtitle track issue explained earlier in the thread.  This has since been corrected.

You're right I didn't get the KNT set. Even though I have watched a few eps of KNT, for me it's just not the same feeling I get when watching SPC; but that's just me :p

I got KNT as a curiosity, and as sort of a 'thanks' for them getting SPC.  I've watched all 54 episodes...at least I think so (been watching the show out of order), and while it is interesting, I too didn't quite get that feeling....the one that I had when I first discovered SPC all those years back.  KNT at times took itself too seriously.  That's Japan for ya though......even in their anime aimed more at children (such as KNT was), they like going over-the-top with seriousness.  It gets worse the older you get into the demographics.

Frankly, I'm glad Saban couldn't find the scripts, and literally ad-libbed and played along to the animation, making it all up as they went.

One more thing I realized.....Saban was actually fairly good with SPC, keeping most of KNT's animated content intact.  All they edited out were scenes that contained Japanese text that couldn't easily be inked out or explained away, and in place of the opening sequence that's the same for each episode (between the OP and the title card), they gave us the 'Fanclub Oath' that precedes the end credits.

I can't wait to see the 12 unaired (in the US, if only due to material that, at the time (1996) was deemed 'inappropriate' for kids.....this would have been little to no issue if we had the TV rating system that would get enacted a couple years after SPC left the air) episodes in the same quality that I've seen the rest of SPC, and now KNT in.

I don't think KNT can fairly be described as taking itself seriously at all. It's full of puns, 4th wall breaking, pop culture references, and self parody. Granted, some of that doesn't come through as well in the Discotek subtitles.

Perhaps it is the sometimes haphazard subtitle job, but even in more recent stuff like Azumanga Daioh (which is about as rife with Japanese jokes / puns as KNT is), things just get plain lost in translation.

At least the various 'funny' bits are easier to understand than with most other anime I've watched, but that may be because I came into knowing about KNT via SPC,  If I ever were in question about certain things, that's what the Internet is for.

English (especially American) humor is more slapstick and 'gross out' for its comedy, whereas the UK is more about dry / sarcastic humor.  Japan seems to be more about visual cues and puns that only they can understand, and are basically lost on the rest of the world.

It's definitely one of the toughest genres of anime to translate from what I've seen, based on both dubs and subtitle tracks.

Hey there, guys!  I know it's been a while, but I'm thinking of returning, and I am psyched about our favorite cartoon finally getting a legit DVD release! $40, $80, I'll pay whatever it takes to get that set in my possession!

So, after all these years, here I am watching SPC on an official DVD!

I was hoping for a booklet or some stickers or something to come in the DVD case, but it's just the DVDs.  Good enough.

Quality?  Well, it's the best I've ever seen SPC and really the best you're going to get, just keep in mind our show is from the early 90s.  For me it brought back memories of the good old days watching SPC on TV, but no commercials, a little better quality picture, and no annoying TV station announcer talking over the end credits.  I did have to turn up my TV sound more than I normally do for watching a DVD.  I was just using my bedroom TV which isn't the most high-end entertainment system.

The episodes are all 100% complete, with opening, previews, fan club oath, and full end credits.

I'm very pleased with the box-set, well worth every dollar. (I would have gladly paid even more!)

Glad to hear they're arriving. I'm a bit low on cash at the moment, so I'll have to wait to but my copy.

I've never seen SPC in anything but grainy quality, even when it aired originally, so this is very good news to read.

I still await my copy's arrival, but that's okay, as I won't be 'not-so-busy' until early the coming week anyways when I'll have time to check it out myself.
