Guilty Gear XX Reload on Hardest settings, try fighting Axl, took about 30-40 trys until I found a pattern that let me avoid his arial power attacks.
Other than that maybe Mig-29 for the Sega Gen. and I had some trouble beating Altered Beast when I was little.

I was on Cheat Today, and I came across a thing that said that if you beat Super Smash Bros. on very hard mode with one life and no continues, then on your character selection screen will look either evil or scared.
I got close several times, and it took me about a week or so to succeed.
Turns out it was all a big lie!
I'm very gullible.

Never believe the people who say stuff like that. They're the same guys who'll tell you Sonic is in Melee.
Kid Icarus. I played through a frustrating game that I disliked.

Flicky for the Sega Genesis. Sure, the conecpt of the game is simple; Collect all Chickys, bring them to the escape door, avoid all cats and lizards. But try playing it. It's so damn hard. I had a friend who was able to beat every Genesis game I owned. So I lent him Flicky for a week to try to finish. He couldn't do it.

Legacy of the Wizard, for the NES.
It's easy in concept too, collect the 4 crowns and the dragon slayer.
My current speed run is at: 15 years, 8 months...
Yeah, its that hard, but the music is good and the characters are cool

Battletoads, the speeder bike level. My God, why did they have to make it so hard?!
Also the Breakthrough expansion for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The entire game. Especially the part where you had to fend off a ton of tanks with a crappy mortar that you could hardly aim, and also the very last part where you had to snipe the demolitions guys trying to blow up the radio tower.

Ghouls and Ghosts Super Turbo Edition (Snes and Arcade) (and Ghouls and ghosts Standard too)
1 life, 1 powerup. 80 baddies per level, 1 hard boss every 5 levels. 240 levels.
This game on EASY was a mission. I've completed it several times on easy, and only once at normal. the game is impossible on Hard or godlike. i know of no-one to beat it at godlike.
oh and i forgot to say, no save points...

Here's a new one, Melty Blood Re-Act.
On difficulty 5, its nearly impossible to any level unless you are some sort of professional arcade-style-fighting-game champion. But its all worth it to see the super-cool specials that the cpu pumps out.

Aztec Adventure (For the Master System) eight level, is has too many boss fights and only one thing that fills your health...in the whole level!. I was never able to pass it, maybe because I didn’t cheat, but next time I take the master system out of the box (In December, cause I love to play videgames before Christmas) I’m going to do use some cheats and end the damn thing!.

A couple different games, actually.
First up is Space Hulk for the PC. There's this object on one of the later levels that I'm supposed to find if I want to beat the mission. I've been playing the game in earnest since the mid-1990s, and I still haven't beaten it.
Second is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. I've managed to reach the Technodrome stage, and it's at this point that the enemies start to say: "What are we losing to THIS guy for? He's nothing!" Basically, each time I play this game, I wind up dying before I even reach the Shredder.
Pokemon Emerald's the most recent game to join the list, due in no small part to the Battle Frontier's sheer difficulty. I don't care what they say; it's HARD.

Ikaruga and F-Zero GX. I've wanted to smash both these games into itty bitty pieces at one point in time.

Sonic Phantom = easy mode. If you haven't tried playing as him, I'd suggest you try it. I can dominate any track on the hardest difficulty with no problem as The Skull (with anyone else... not so much).
And I'll second Ikaruga. That game is HARD.

Yeah, I saw a movie like that as well. when I first saw that I was in such awe that I played Ikaruga for like 3 solid days, but alas, mere mortals are not perfect enough to play it.

The problem is that many just keep playing the game in the wrong way over and over again, that’s why GameFAOs exist. In the other hand, those who just try everything (I tried everything in Mario Kart 64) end mastering the game.
In Phantasy star III I tried everything for a while, for example I explored and level up a lot, so the first halt of the game was a piece of cake, but I didn’t like The second half, so I stooped playing it.
