I have been thinking of that too. But what if we have completed a entire chapter? I like rar's in combination with CDisplay (a mangaviewer).

Text insertion is harder than it looks. It takes me good half hour to input the text correct while checking the grammar, making sure that everyone knows what they are saying (I learned two new words! Yeah!) and so on. But the result is quite satisfying.
Talking about results I just finished page 6 and since all the translastions is done untill page 7... Yes, I either have to learn how to translate or I have to learn japanese (Well, one of my teachers is willing to give our class japanese so who knows.). But since I have more to do (homework, real work, even more homework) I'm glad I can use it as an excuse ^_^

Notes about this page (Yes, I love to add notes):
Page 6,F1: Didn't replace soundeffect (no room and seemed strange to me, it's more like he is hurt)

About the page 6,

• at frame 1 the Karamaru's thought somewhat different from the Japanese (where he was crept seeing Yattarou's face).
• at frame 2 Karamaru actually says 'waving knives' instead swords. For Japanese people it's funnier when one imagines a half-naked Yattarou running behind somebody, waving knives.

These remarks doesn't mean that no changes must be made to my raw texts nor that I'm disapproving them. I understant that more or less re-creation is necessay to adapt the texts to other countries readers. I intend only to point out the differences arising from the translation/re-creation process, because it's better to make everybody aware of this.

Well, maybe I'd better just ask this to the folks of this thread. Would you guys prefer if I (or whoever was looking over the raw english translation) did as little editing to the words as possible? I ask this because of the changes which Daisensei pointed out.

My main concern here is that when trying to make the words work better, I may be cutting something important out. And I'd rather not loose something important with something I hold in high reguard.

If you folks would rather have the text remain super close to what it originally was, then that's sweet. 
Or if you don't mind some of the edits that Elon or myself have done, we can keep that up too.

In reponse to Daisensei I'll give some of my reasons for my edits. (In the future I'll be sure to post why I changed what I changed.)
And I appreciate the comments Daisensei has made.  Since I can't read any of the Japanese writing forms, I'm at the mercy of those who can. And it's better for me to know what those in Japan would be reading so I can try to direct that towards us and give us something to relate to.

Page 6 - Frame 1: When I read the initial translation "How creepy is this guy." I did figure that he was talking about Yattarou's looks. (Seriously, that is one freaky look he's got going on.) At the moment, I think I was playing off of the line from the previous page where Karamaru came up and wanted to see what was wrong. Now that I look more at the picture maybe a revision wouldn't hurt. Maybe something along the lines of "Thats... really creepy..."

Page 6 - Frame 2: When I read this, I thought of how some people make fun of Batman or other super heroes for being men (or women) in tights (or wierd looking pajamas.) So my thought was that Karamaru was calling Yattarou & company's outfits basically undergarments. (Although the guys of Edo would kill to see Pururun saving the day in nothing but her unmentionables.)

And since Yattarou's main weapon isn't a knife, I changed it to sword. (Although, thinking about Yattarou running around in underpants with knives sounds pretty funny.    )

So those are my reasons... or excuses. However folks wish to view them.
I welcome any insights that folks are willing to give, cause we're all shooting for something that is accurate, understandable, and enjoyable. 

We're doing a good job so far, and we can only get better as we get used to it. By the end of the manga, we'll be cooking with gas!

I'm now going to update the manga (I would hate homework, was it not that "hate" is word that doesn't even come close to the feeling I have for homework)
About translations: I have been thinking and discussed a bit with Methid Man about how the translation should be carried out (sorry, this went around you guys). And we had two main concerns
1) How close do we want to stick with the translation?
2) We have KNT and SPC, do we want to make separate versions?

We didn't really make a conclusion except that we both agreed about the fact that there should be made two versions. I for one had problems with the translation since I don't know "Yattarou". If I would let my little brother (18) he would have problems reading it. And one of my goals with editing is to make it as available as possible for all kind of people in English. So I decided for myself that I will make two versions, one for KNT-fans and one for the SPC-fans.

Would you guys prefer if I (or whoever was looking over the raw english translation) did as little editing to the words as possible?

The first question ("How close do we want to stick with the translation?") is harder or maybe even impossible to answer. I for one, like translation as close as it can to the original one as long as it is readable but I'm not everyone nor can I or we for that matter decide what the best course is. It's more like a preference than anything else. You like person X while I like person Y, but we have to love the same person (ok, that was perverted.).

However, I will follow the direct translation to readable English translator (which is who?  ) as much as possible unless I feel uncomfortable with it. But if someone disagrees with me and provided an explanation which is correct than I will change it.

Ok, since I have come to some conclusion I will make a short review for those who are lazy and don’t want to seek for the conclusions:
1) There are going to be two versions (SPC and KNT)
2) The KNT version has the higher priority of both
3) The editor (me) will follow the readable English translation but will edit when he feels uncomfortable about some things.
4) When someone disagrees or have problem with the self made edits I made to the translation then he can protest and if he/she has an explanation why I made a poor choice than I will change it.

'Puutarou' is a name created by Polly Esther in the episode KNT 22 (Karasu ga piza motte tokkyubin?; in the SPC, Pizza Bird Delivers), to avoid Karamaru discovering the real identity of Speedy Cerviche at the Pizza Cat. REASON: Lost the edit-version which means I have to work off the finished version (which I dislike) or redo the entire page (which I haven't have time for at the moment

I don't mind if someone wants to change the translation as desired. If several different versions of the manga translations appeared, it's fine, after all each one has its own way to read the texts. I only want to stimulate a discussion here, this makes the reading and translating process richier, in my opinion.

If you want I can write a small tutorial how to do it. It's quite simple once you know how to do it.

Also websamba (the maybe host I was looking for) isn't working as I wished. For that reason I have looked for something else and I found one. It's GigaFiles since it also allows me to upload any filetype.
I will also upload the transcripts (translated text) and the editable versions.

I think that I will make a seperate thread were I can hold the top-post so that I can update it each and everytime, oh well. I guess it can wait for now .

Page 9, frame 6: **I’m assuming that Omitsu is talking about her shop. The only other shop that I could think of Sukashii helping with would be the Emporium, and why would she be so happy about that?

It's not the Emporium (Pizza cat hangout?) but her own shop that is called "mitchan" (yes, her name). It the Samurai Pizza Cats anime you see Speedy (Yattarrou) eat there riceballs regular. This seems to be pointed out in the SPC-translation.
